The Road To Nowhere!

Yesterday we decided to visit my parents up at their holiday property, Eildon, which is about a 3 hour car ride away.  We left home at 7am, hoping to get there by 10am and spend the day there, and then leave at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.  Our trip was going well until we got to the small town of Yea and were greated with a road block.  There had been torrential rain and storms the night before and there was some flooding and debris on the road and we were told to go via an alternate route.

Well thats all well and good however we didnt know the alternate route!  So we turned back and drove towards the town of Seymore, which was about half an hour in the other direction.  We stopped for directions at a servo but the girl there didnt know how to get to Eildon from Seymore. We then asked a taxi driver and Rob looked at his street directory and we went the way he told us to go.  It seemed okay at the start but then I had to stop for a pee and there were no loos so I squated by the side of the road, yes, very lady like hey?

Rob found our street directory and we continued on our way but we seemed to be going a different way to where we were supposed to be going.  We were heading to Shepparton, which is further away.  We were on the Golburn highway when we were supposed to be on a different highway completely.  We had to go thru Euroa to get to Eildon and it seemed we were going further and further away!  We got off at Violet Town, yet another small country town, which seemed to lead us to Euroa, then in Euroa we asked a local how to get to Merton, yet another dot on the map, then finally we were on our way, and we got to my parents place at lunchtime instead of our original ETA of 10am! 

So a usually 3 hour trip, turned out to be a long 5 hour trip all because of a fucking road block!  Its times like these I wish we had a Navman instead of having a street directory, cos I for one cant read maps and Rob had to keep stopping to read the map cos Im useless at it!  The kids were so fed up of sitting in the car, and Rob was sick of driving.  I told him to turn back and go home but he insisted on keeping going.  The car trip had eaten into our day and stuffed the whole thing up.

All the while we were in the car I had the Talking Heads song "We're on the road to nowhere....." stuck in my head cos it really felt like we were on a never ending road!  My bum was so happy once we got to my parents place, it was as numb as anything from 5 hours stuck in the car!
